About the
Exhibition

Charlie MacPherson’s exhibition of new work, comprising multimedia installations, sculpture and paintings, invites the audience to immerse themselves in an evocative journey, as they rediscover the person within them, behind the physical and psychological masks and barriers.
This exhibition explores the human self-protective nature; how we mask, hide and shield our truest selves from external pain, humiliation and torment and how by doing so, we are also protecting ourselves from the most hurtful, the most intense and the most destructive pain; our internal destruction, manipulation and torture. The work within the exhibition will challenge and provoke underlying and subconscious truths around disassociation of self, fear of openness and the ease and destruction of masking.
The artist believes it is imperative to begin the unmasking, to start to see life, not as a fancy-dress masquerade but to reconnect to the perfectly imperfect unique version of our truest selves; as we learn to recognise the person looking back in the mirror, to see their importance, strength and value as they are in today’s world.
About the
Artist

My practice is multi-dimensional, multi-media and multi-sensory. I work with traditional methods and techniques that include oil painting, print making and pencil work, as well as with site specific installations, sculptures and digital photography.
My work engages with experiences of mental health, disassociation of self, reconnection with and reaffirmation of our truest selves. I question and examine the ways we protect ourselves from both external pain and humiliation, also from the internal negative dialogue and frustrations we create. I create works that are immersive, physical experiences for the audience.
